The Cold Wall Problem in Suffolk, Norfolk & Essex

Many older properties (pre-1930s) have solid brick walls with no cavity. These walls are terrible at retaining heat and become very cold in winter. This cold surface acts as a magnet for condensation.

Internal Wall Insulation (IWI) involves adding an insulating layer to the inside face of external walls. This significantly raises the wall temperature, preventing condensation and making the room feel instantly warmer.

    Benefits

    • Stops condensation permanently on that wall
    • Reduces heat loss by up to 45%
    • Lower heating bills
    • Improved sound insulation
    • Smoother wall finish (new plaster)

IWI Systems in Suffolk, Norfolk & Essex

    Thermal Plasterboard

We fix high-performance foam-backed plasterboard (PIR) to the wall via dot-and-dab or mechanical fixings. This provides excellent insulation but reduces room size slightly (approx 50-60mm loss).

    Thin-Coat Systems

For rooms where space is premium, we use ultra-thin aerogel insulation or insulating wallpaper (e.g., Wallrock). This takes the chill off the wall with minimal thickness (5-10mm).

Assessing a Wall Before Internal Insulation

How can I check whether an external wall is ready for internal insulation?

First investigate active leaks, penetrating damp, damaged pointing, and any existing mould; insulation should not be used to conceal unresolved moisture. The wall's construction, exposure, internal finishes, and ventilation also affect which build-up is suitable. A visual check is only a starting point, not a moisture diagnosis. Have persistent damp assessed and repair its source before deciding on an insulation system.
