Great Yarmouth's housing stock is heavily influenced by its history as a seaside resort and fishing port. The town contains a large number of Victorian and Edwardian guest houses and large residential properties, many of which have been converted into flats and HMOs. These conversions, combined with the coastal climate, create some of the most challenging damp and condensation problems we encounter anywhere in East Anglia.
Landlords in Great Yarmouth face particular pressure to address damp and mould, especially since the introduction of Awaab's Law, which requires social housing providers — and increasingly affects private landlords — to investigate and fix damp and mould within strict timescales. We work with Great Yarmouth landlords to install PIV ventilation systems, treat rising damp, and apply exterior coatings that protect properties from the elements, helping them meet their legal obligations.
The seafront and town centre properties face the worst of the coastal weather. We regularly apply exterior wall coatings and clear water repellents to properties along Marine Parade and the surrounding streets, providing a breathable waterproof barrier that stops rain penetrating the walls. For properties with severe penetrating damp, we also offer full rendering and silicone rendering services that provide a new, weather-resistant external skin.
