How DPC Injection Works in Suffolk, Norfolk & Essex

Chemical Damp Proof Course (DPC) injection is the modern, industry-standard method for retrofitting a horizontal barrier against rising damp in existing masonry walls. It essentially replicates the function of the slate or plastic DPC that should have been installed when the house was built.

We use a high-strength silane/siloxane cream. Small holes (typically 12mm) are drilled into the mortar course at regular intervals along the base of the wall. The cream is injected into these holes and slowly diffuses into the mortar bed, curing to form a continuous, water-repellent zone that moisture cannot pass through.

    Why Cream?

Old-fashioned "high pressure" fluid injection often blew out bricks and failed to penetrate uniformly. Modern creams are thixotropic (thick like mayonnaise), allowing them to stay in the hole and absorb deeply into the mortar over 24-48 hours without running out.

Before: Rising damp and hygroscopic salts bypassing failed DPC

After: New chemical DPC injection and replastering stops rising damp

Installation Process in Suffolk, Norfolk & Essex

    1

    Drilling

We drill 12mm holes horizontally into the mortar bed joint, typically 150mm above external ground level. Holes are spaced no more than 120mm apart to ensure the cream zones overlap.

    2

    Injecting

The DPC cream is injected using a low-pressure applicator gun, ensuring the hole is filled to within 10mm of the face of the wall. We use the correct dosage for the wall thickness.

    3

    Capping

The holes are capped with mortar or plastic plugs to match the wall finish. The cream then begins its diffusion process immediately, creating the barrier within 24-48 hours.

    DPC Injection

Checking the Cause Before DPC Injection

How can I distinguish rising damp from a leak before considering injection?

A low-level damp patch may be consistent with rising damp, but plumbing leaks, rainwater entering through walls, and condensation can produce similar damage. Check for leaking pipes, faulty gutters, cracked render, and changes associated with weather or indoor humidity. Moisture readings and a wider inspection are needed to interpret the evidence. Do not choose chemical DPC injection based on staining alone.
