Stowmarket sits at the heart of Suffolk, making it a central hub for our operations across the county. The town has a diverse housing stock ranging from medieval timber-framed properties around the market place to Victorian terraces near the railway station and large modern estates at Cedars Park and Chilton Leys. Each requires a different approach to damp and timber treatment.
In the older parts of Stowmarket, rising damp is the most common issue we treat. Many of these properties were built before damp proof courses became standard, and where DPCs were retro-fitted in the 1970s and 80s, they have often now failed. We install modern chemical DPCs using silicone-based cream injected at low pressure, which is far more effective and reliable than the older systems it replaces.
Stowmarket's newer developments are not immune to problems. Modern building standards prioritise energy efficiency, which means homes are sealed tight with little natural ventilation. This creates ideal conditions for condensation, and we are regularly called to properties on Cedars Park and the Needham Road developments to install PIV units. These systems are the single most effective way to prevent condensation and mould in modern homes.
