A clear waterproof membrane for brickwork is a silicone or silane-based water-repellent treatment that penetrates deep into the masonry and chemically bonds within the substrate to create a hydrophobic barrier. It repels up to 95% of water absorption without changing the appearance of the brickwork — no colour change, no surface film, no sheen. Benefits include prevention of penetrating damp, elimination of frost damage and spalling, inhibition of moss and algae growth, reduced heat loss, and extended mortar joint life. Professional application involves cleaning, repointing where needed, and applying the cream or liquid in a wet-on-wet technique. A properly applied clear masonry membrane lasts 10 to 25 years.
