How to identify woodworm in your Ipswich or Suffolk home. Signs of active woodworm infestation include fresh cream-coloured frass (bore dust) around exit holes, bright clean-edged flight holes in timber, small brown beetles found on windowsills between May and September, and timber that feels soft or crumbles when pressed. KDS Property Preservation offers free woodworm inspections across Ipswich, Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury, and all of Suffolk. Call 01473 561 031.

Suffolk properties — particularly Victorian terraces in Ipswich, period farmhouses, and older rural cottages — are highly susceptible to woodworm due to suspended timber floors, ageing roof structures, and elevated moisture levels. The highest-risk areas to check are the sub-floor void and floor joists, loft rafters and purlins, staircases, and original softwood joinery. Woodworm is closely linked to damp conditions: timber with moisture content above 18% is significantly more attractive for egg-laying, which is why damp treatment and woodworm treatment are often carried out together.
